Connecting to where our food comes from

It's nice to feel connected. In this case, to Thaddeus, the person who grows our food. To Moyra, whom he just married last October in a lovely wedding in northern France. To Jersey Girl, the farm dog who had a run in with a rattlesnake sometime last summer, and thankfully survived. I'm talking about Capay's Farm Fresh to You, the farm that delivers fresh produce to us every two weeks.

Saturday, we met everyone in person for the first time. And walked on the earth that our food comes from. It was as if a story book had come to life, together with the characters I've come to know so well. The occasion was a tomato tasting gala and dinner at the farm. It was intoxicating. If we had our doubts about continuing the service (we do have a Whole Foods just 10 minutes' walk away!), that's pretty much gone. Once you've met the people who grow your food, and ate from their table, you can't turn back! It's a bit like being back in a little village – you're bound to each other, responsible for each other's success and well-being, through thick and thin.

Here are some pix from the lovely event.
